Ways To Decorate Your Place For Christmas In A More Environmentally Conscious Way
Christmas time is here and everyone is busy decorating their homes inside and out getting in the festive spirit. Due to the economy, some homeowners may not be hanging as many lights on their homes to keep the electric bill lower or want to find more envir4onmentally friendly ways to decorate their homes. This article will give a few of those tips like using led picture lights to light up different parts of your home to save electricity, buying a potted tree that can be replanted after the season is over or an artificial tree to be shine on a special collection of Christmas decorations and using things from nature to be festive.
Many homeowners enjoy using Christmas lights on the exterior of their houses to get in the Holiday mood . Rather than using the old lights that use up more electricity, consdier investing in Christmas lights that are more energy efficient and help the environment by wasting less energy. It will also help you save money over the long run so it is a great idea. For the entry or doorway of your place, consider going to a nursery that sells live Christmas trees and ask for the discarded branches that they cut off of the Christmas trees. You can use these to bundle up in wire to make a swag or string along a rope to make a garland that is fresh, beautiful and free. It is like recycling.
The Christmas tree is one of the main focal points of the inside of your home and for those that want to have a live tree, here is a wonderful more environmentally conscious alternative. Instead of buying a freshly cut tree, think about purchasing a potted Christmas tree. This is a tree that still has it’s roots and can be planted in your yard after the holiday season is over. So, this way, you get a live Christmas tree and also one that you will continue to enjoy for several years planted in your yard. The other more green alternative is to get an artificial tree that can be used every year.
Another more environmentally conscious suggestion for decorating would be to make some handcrafted ornaments for the tree. This would be wonderful if you have kids at home that would enjoy this project. Have them find some things from nature on a walk or simply from your backyard, like leaves or pine cones. These items from nature can be made into festive ornaments like a pinecone snowman or a leaf covered round ball to hang. Another great suggestion is to take a pinecone cover it in peanut butter and roll it in birdseed to hang outside for the birds, just like a Christmas gift for them.
